avid railroad buffs, nothing makes their heart beat faster
than the sound of an approaching train. Rockwood offers
numerous opportunies each day to enjoy the sights and sounds
of Amtrak and CSX trains passing through town on the double
tracks
that originally earned Rockwood the title of "Railroad
Center of Somerset County." Park at the Rockwood Mill Shoppes
and Opera House for a close-up view of all the action.

Cross-country
skiers are discovering one of the better-kept secrets
of their sport: The Great Allegheny Passage. This nearly-level
hiking/biking trail becomes a favorite route for cross-country
skiers when Mother Nature turns the trail into a scenic
winter wonderland. Parking is available at the Rockwood
Trailhead.

Horseback
riding is permitted on the grassy areas of the Great Allegheny
Passage in selected areas, including the 6-mile stretch
between the Rockwood Trailhead
and Garrett. Parking is available at the Rockwood Trailhead.
